Founded in 1972, Chesapeake Humane Society is a non-profit organization that is managed by volunteers and funded by private donors - it does not receive government subsidies. The Society supports the homeless animals of Chesapeake in the following ways:

  • Provides low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination services
Provides financial assistance to shelter animals in immediate medical need
Serves on the Chesapeake Animal Control Advisory Board
Lends countless volunteer hours to enhance the lives of shelter pets
Runs a media program that advertises adoptable pets
• Hosts off-site adoption events to advertise adoptable pets
• Makes an annual financial gift to Chesapeake Animal Control

The Chesapeake Humane Society works to promote the welfare of companion animals in the community through programs and strategies aimed at improving responsible pet ownership and reducing the pet population.
